Sunday Cook Outs @ Que Pasa!

This is why we Love Dewey Beach: $7.00 Sunday Cook Outs inside "the glass" @ Que Pasa! Earlier in the day I checked it out, and conversed with Chef Joe! Early evening I showed up with a friend, immediately asked for two portions of the Ahi Tuna reserved for our dinner and started to settle into the scene, including the scenery.
The dinner gives you a choice of the above or marinated steak or chicken, pork loin or chicken wings. I bet if you ask sweetly Chef Joe will do a combo! Sides are: grilled red onion, roasted corn, red rice and hot tortillas!
I will not be cooking another Sunday Dinner until Que Pasa mothballs the grill!
After one of the most traumatic election weekends in memory: having the Sunday cookout at such a "very-Dewey venue" soothed my Dewey-beachy soul..... even more than a shot or two of whiskey!

Friday Nite! "Scraps" for a new Routine!

Who does not know that Friday night is "Taco Toss" at "The Lighthouse"? Is it even possible to try a new routine?
Try this! Make your way around the Lighthouse deck to say hello to your buds...... then hang at "Que Pasa". The age group here is beyond the Taco Toss's mainstay of the 20- to 30 year group.
Then off to "Scraps" you go, sit out on the deck, and try the new Chef's menu of Thai offerings. Made to my exact "heat requirement", I adored the Pad Thai!
After dinner....... From the deck look up to the "Two Seas" to see if their top deck is in action. If so, you are in luck as it is usually only reserved for group functions and special events.
Walk in..... and sweetly request to hang at the deck bar as most likely you will be "crashing" the already in-progress event.
There is seating to the right of the bar where you will not be interfering with the event. The step down to this area is hardly noticeable...... so if you are looped expect a crash landing.
Enjoy the breeze and the view of the ocean and the bay!
Walk home happy!

Beach Blessings,

Bonfire, Piping Plovers and Que Pasa! Typical!

Friday night was a fun Birthday Bonfire!  30 to 40 year olds, married with their first kid-lets and accompanying dogs.  Birthday Boy was surrounded by family and some single friends so a Yucca ( jug with water, sugar, vodka, lemon, limes) was passed round and round.
A father of two cute kids and a hot wife, decided to be Jack-Be-Nimble Jack-Be-Quick and he really did jump over the huge Fire Pit!!!!!  Nothing was scorched.  I squealed!  His wife and kids did not!
Saturday I did Bird Police at Cape Henlopen State Park.  What a great session it was!  ~ 20 birders from a Baltimore club came to bird the spot and cross the Endangered Species Piping Plover off their Life List.  I was able to show them a chick..... and adults too. From their leader,  I learned much about Terns and Gulls.
I rushed back to the cottage for a quick snack and to spend the afternoon lounging and swimming on my beach.
Saturday evening I was off with friends to Que Pasa.
Que Pasa is wonderful because there ain't much there except a garage with glass doors! It is as if you docked with your boat and got out for drinks with chips and salsa.  We waited 30 minutes to get a table on "the Bay beach".  We talked past the sunset into the night.
The food is very curious and shows some invention.  As dinner, it is over priced...... as rental for the local real-estate ... worth every penny.   It is my favorite Sunday wind-down spot.
For not much more cash........ Rehoboth's Finn's buys you a cozy bar, with a fabulous beer menu, and the best fried ( lightly) oyster dinner I've had since????
Sunday it was back to Cape Henlopen State Park and more swimming!

Dewey Fridays

I was at my cottage less than 30 minutes when my friend called to say it was "Taco Toss Time".  I changed clothes from my prissy Summer cotton skirt into "Dewey Acceptable" and to Taco-Toss We-Go!
Happy crowd........ but the numbers were light after last week's Memorial Holiday.  My friend enjoyed the rumbly-thunder and lightening sky and crowd, but complained that he did not recognize anyone.  Could it be because we are getting older and they are getting younger!  Taco Toss is owned by the 20-30 year old crowd.
We sat in the Crabbers Cove...... finished drinks ....... then wound our way round the deck to Que Pasa.  Ah, now we are at the 30-60 year old crowd.  Hysterics all around when a tiny doll- sized black bull pranced 360 degrees around the bar! The chicks LOVED THIS!
After I munched on chips, salsa, and chicken quesadillas...... we were off across the street to Nalu's!
Ah, the crowd here is 30-50's, heavy on the 30's, and just having fun trying to imbibe way-too-big Luau-type drinks.  DJ was doing a good job....... but no one was on the dance floor.
Back at the cottage, we drank herbal tea...... .
I crashed as I had to awake for AM Bird Police Duty at Cape Henlopen State Park.

Very Dewey Friday!

Very-Dewey-Beach was my 6:30PM Friday Night Happy Hour invite........ which turned into a barbecue cookout which turned into a Big Happy Birthday party which ended at midnight!
I took the hosts doggie out for a quick walk......and discovered as I walked by an ocean block home that has a Key West outdoor bar/kitchen/outdoor fireplace! I dubbed it "Que Pasa Oceanside".  I crashed their party and said to look for me again!

Small Kitchen Stories: Mac and Cheese

Upon arriving at the beachy-cottage all commuted-out from the traffic.....I throw my stuff in the cottage..... then take a sunset walk along the beach.  Oh, and maybe a look-see-in at Nalu's, Que Pasa, and Taco Toss too!
Then, back at home,  I am STARVED and just want something quick, yummy, and maybe left-overs too for a weekend snack too :-)
Mac and Cheese!  Even my my family members would never guess and simultaneously be appalled!  NEVER-EVER in a Million Years, do I make the Mac and Cheese meal at my non-beach abode!
Read on: this is brilliant.  I use Annie's Shells and Cheddar.  Now comes the creative part: any small bits of veggies can boil along with the shells.  Asparagus is perfect cooking time-wise.  Then of course I pump it up with more cheddar cheese :-)   and then top it with a chopped tomato and .....oohh, maybe some lovely smoked tuna or bluefish or trout :-)
Take the leftovers and mix in some Hellman's Mayo.......and a nice salad is the result.
Sshhh, do not tell my friends, they will laugh all Summer!
