Coffee, Tea, beach-walks, Dad & Me.

Early AM, Dad roused out of bed what ever kid he could to accompany him on outings of beach-walks, breakfast on the boardwalk, and a final stop to buy the paper, groceries and the day's fish.
I was sleepy, but I cooperated. Besides having Dad all to myself, the early morning walks yielded great beach-combing finds and a delicious boardwalk breakfast at The Henlopen Hotel.
We always had a table with an ocean view. How I happily remember walking in, seeing and smelling the sea of white starched cloth-covered tables, with white fat china pots full of the morning percolated coffee. Jam pots cluttered the table top.
Therein lies my "problem".
I'm a tea-drinker! Only estate-tea, hand-picked will do! I keep Assam, two types of Darjeeling, and a Ceylon on hand to do my daily blends. All night I await and look forward to my morning pot of tea.
Upon my return to the beach I did drink percolated coffee! It was delicious. The leftovers turned into iced-coffee was even better. This delight had to be given up upon my heart saying: no way.
Oddly, at the beach for me any type of British-style tea (excepting the herbals which I drink by the gallons), tastes "weak and off". I get by with "PG Tips" tea, two bags to a pot; sometimes doped-up with a smattering of loose Assam.
My only explanation is the above story where for me beach-side early mornings demand coffee.
Once in a great while in the morning I find myself near the ocean/bay and coffee! Once in a while I let myself have not even 1/4 cup with some milk. Glorious, glorious it is.
It is not me.
Yet, it is my youthful palette that never drank the coffee, saying a happy !YES! to youthful Summers gone by.

Midway's Screening Room and SJC.

One of my most favorite Summer socials is Seaside Jewish Community's ( SJC) Movie Night!
We were a small group....... ~ 20........ definitely the retired age group. The chosen movie, "Defiance"........ the extreme violence was not for a family night-out.
I love having The Midway's Screening Room "all to ourselves". It is fun and intimate, bonds form with the food and the ability to vocalize during the movie our "oh's and oy's".
For the menu we had a salad bar with ordered-in pizza! Lots of desserts from fresh figs to chocolate torte. Of course, Popcorn was served at movie time!!!

Rehoboth's Hobo's

We headed to Rehoboth's Hobo's with an advertisement coupon in hand:
free appetizer with purchase of an entree, but in fact we were after the
most jiving possible scene. Baltimore Avenue seems to be the place.
Score! Seated in Hobo's outdoor cafe, we had across the street the
sardine-packed Iguana Grill and to our right the indoor Hobo's view of
their tiny bar, a lounge singer, dancing Grandma's and squirming children.
Our waiter inquired if we might have food allergies! After we promised
not to code on the spot, our orders were taken.
The appetizer proved to be entree sized and teeming with asiatic flavors, half of which
made it home for a midnight snack. The entrees were mesmerizing and made our senses
vibrate.
Happy, we lingered as long as possible and later toured
Rehoboth's bars.

My Musical Succoth with Pizza!

If I can arrive at Seaside Jewish Community in time for Shabbat services...... my evening is made.
This time it was even better with Grotto Pizza ordered-in for dinner, Pizza In The Hut, The Succoth Hut! Afterwards we had the Succoth Service in the hut as the evening winds blew about.... gently swaying the structure.  One gust blew into the entrance and did a heave-ho, but the Succoth hut remained sound :-)
For certain prayers we needed to face East.  I was in disbelief when 75% of the worshippers knew not the direction of East!  As in the direction of  THE OCEAN not even 2 miles away!!!! How can you live at The Beach and not know this?
Ok, we will excuse Dewey Beach members... as no one awakes to witness the ocean sunrise, maybe awake for High Noon, yes.
A lovely Oneg social followed and then on home I went to take in the Dewey Beach Music Conference. (See the preceding Blog posting).
I took notice that I was continuing the celebration of Succoth by wandering from one Musical Hut to another!  No other way to describe the Dewey Beach venues other than Huts!

Beach Blessings,

Urgent and Timely! Stop the Rehoboth Beach Sewage Ocean Outfall

URGENT! Sewage in our beloved Ocean and Beach????
Surfrider Foundation Action Network: Stop the Rehoboth Beach Ocean Outfall

Should Rehoboth use an ocean outfall or Land Based Application (LBA) for waste water disposal?
The City of Rehoboth Beach Delaware has to make this decision and Surfrider enthusiastically supports LBA. LBA or spray irrigation is a universally accepted method for treating and reclaiming waste water into irrigation water for farmers, whereas an ocean outfall is a pipe leading out into the ocean which discharges treated effluent from a sewage treatment plant. Each year billions of gallons of fresh water are lost from effluent discharge into water bodies.

Please send this letter ( at link below) telling the City of Rehoboth that you support Land Based Application of waste water, not an ocean outfall.
