Rusty Rudder Jam Fest

I could not help myself, I just had to drop in on the Rusty Rudder's Jam Fest!
I was there Friday night, only one hour, but it was worth the 40 minute round trip of walking to and fro!
Fondly I call the inside "Club Rudder"...... and found "Analog Anthem" working mayhem on Southern Rock.
I sat in front of Stage 2 which was just setting up for "Fiddle Foxx".  Only two guys, no percussion to be found, and only  a keyboard, a fiddle and a banjo set up.  Yet, I had a feeling that this would prove the band performance of the night!
 I was correct!
Fiddle Foxx must have deep folk and classic roots to pull-off their gig which is outside edgy abstract forms of Hip Hop and Rap wound tight to World Rhythms.
Part of the trick was the vocals used as  percussion sounds! The sound system did it justice!
When Fiddle Foxx offered up Rap to Bosa Nova rhythms the crowd went insane!  The musicians waiting for their slots gathered tight about the stage and the kitchen employees poked their astonished heads around the doorway.
An unexpected thrilling live music performance: This is when I love Dewey Beach the most!

Cottage Opens. Fridge DOA!

The beachy-cottage opening was challenging.  My heart always pumps fast as I pull up to the driveway....open the door.....and look around.
Oddly, ten days ago I heard a whisper in my ear: Fridge is dead. Indeed it was nearly so.  It made burbling noises and hardly a whisper of a hopeful cool breeze.
I called Millman's the local appliance store....... they are wonderful.  In just a few minuted they located the one I needed.
But how in the heck to get the old one out and the new one in?  The fridge width is 24 inches and the opening to the kitchen galley is 23 inches!!!!!!
Now I needed a kitchen cabinetry tradesman/contractor to take out a cabinet to make space and coordinate the removal of the old and the arrival of the new.
Thankfully I had picked up a Coastal Press paper.  I picked out an ad..... made the call and put on my best damsel in distress vibe.
Success followed.  Everything coordinated and arranged........ but I'll be without a fridge for another week!
The kindness of Millman's and my contractor made my weekend.
Sussex County natives are the best and warm my heart.  The women are warm-hearted and kind and the men are gentlemen.
Hanging out at Jazz Fest helped too!

Jam Fest! May 1st and 2nd! Rusty Rudder!

May 1st and 2nd, The High Tide Jam Fest is at the Rusty Rudder!
NO COVER :-)
Parking should be easy as it is not high season.
Rusty Rudder will have 4 stages, two inside and two on the deck.
2 bands are up at any one time for ~ 45 minutes!  So if you do not like one....head for the other!
My pick is the indoor stages, and in particular the "Club Rudder" small intimate stage.  If the group is rocking so does the crowd as it inches up and surrounds the tiny stage.
Give props to Vicki Walls the booking agent and organizer.
Bring a warm jacket as the outside decks are on the bay and get breezy!  Leave the high heels at home as your heel will get caught in the deck boards ;-)
This is THE BEST of The Dewey Nation!  Wonderful mix of all Dewey age groups attend from  the 20's to the 70's, locals and week-enders alike!
